Daphne Benedis-Grab’s “The Girl in the Wall” is a thriller you won’t easily put down. With ex-best friends at the center of the story, a takeover that goes awry, and an old house with tunnels inside the walls, there is much to look forward to with this story.

Ariel is the “it” girl at school and has invites everyone at school to her house for the party of the year. Sera, her ex-best friend absolutely does not want to go, but due to an old friendship between the dads, she is forced to do so.

Even hearing that Hudson Winters, rock star extraordinaire, will be there does little to allay Sera’s fears of the night ahead. When the concert begins, the security detail that was hired for the evening, turns out not to have the group’s best interest in mind. They open fire on the crowd, kicking off a chain of events that propels all of them into a frenzied state.

This is no random accident. Ariel’s father was targeted. When threats are carried out against their classmates, Sera and Ariel realize they have to band together if they want to survive this horrific night. Ariel escapes into the hidden tunnels in her family’s mansion, where she and Sera played as children. It is Sera, and only Sera, who knows about the tunnels, and where her friend could be. It is up to her to help her ex-best friend and the classmates who have shunned her this past year.

Benedis-Grab has created a riveting story, where tensions run high between the characters, and there is a fight-for-your-life drive until the very end of the story. Her wrap on this compelling tale is poignant and satisfying in a way that will stay with the reader long after the book has been finished.
