New details of the Danvers teacher’s murder have emerged today, as the school video captured parts of the crime. The 14-year-old student, who was arrested in her murder, was caught after police watched a surveillance camera video from the school of the assault. That video showed Phillip Chism put Colleen Ritzer's body in a recycling bin and transport her out of the school, according to ABC News on Oct. 24. He had stabbed the teacher to death, reports reveal today.
Ritzer was killed at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, reports indicate. After allegedly killing his teacher and disposing of her body in the woods, reports say that Chism then went to a movie theater alone and watched a movie. He reportedly watched the Woody Allen movie, "Blue Jasmine." Ritzer was a math teacher at the Danvers High School in Danvers, Massachusetts. Chism was a student in one of Ritzer’s classes.
When Colleen Ritzer didn’t come home on Tuesday night from work, friends called the police to report her missing at about 11:20 p.m. from her home in Andover, Mass. They also said she was not answering her cell phone. This led police to her place of work, which is Danvers High School.
At the same time Chism was reported missing by his family, he had not come home from school. Friends of Chism started a search for the teen, having no idea that the teacher was dead at the time.
Police arrived at the Danvers High School and found a "grisly crime scene," in a second story faculty bathroom, reports ABC News. The search spread out to the area around the school. Colleen Ritzer’s body was found in the woods behind the high school.
Chism was found walking alone on Rt 1 in Danvers a little after midnight and brought in for questioning by the police. Earlier reports indicated that Chism is seen on the video taking the teacher through the school and out to the woods, but today it is learned he used a recycling bin to transport her body. The big question on everyone’s mind this morning is what happened?
Why did a seemingly nice kid allegedly murder one of the favorite teachers at the Danvers High School? What could possibly be the motive in this crime?
Chism was arraigned in Salem District Court yesterday. He stood showing no emotion. His mother, who was in the gallery, wiped away her tears as she listened to the charges her son is facing.
This case is perplexing to everyone in Danvers who knew either the victim or the suspect. The town is a bedroom community about 20 miles outside of Boston with a population of 26,000. The town has a high school, a middle school and five elementary schools. It is an extremely close-knit community so the loss of Colleen Ritzer has the entire town in mourning today. This murder has captured the nation's attention and people across the U.S. are saddened by the loss of a young teacher in such a horrendous crime.
