Danvers homicide charged to 14-year-old high school student. The teen was accused of murdering 24-year-old math teacher, Colleen Ritzer, whose body was found in the woods near the Massachusetts school. According to the Boston Herald on October 23, the local schools were closed during the investigation.
'She was a very, very respected, loved teacher. At 24 years of age ... it's a terrible tragedy for the entire Danvers community,' said Blodgett, adding 'there is no reason to believe other suspects are involved.'
Philip Chism was charged with the Danvers homicide as an adult. Police found him wandering in the area by Route 1. The teacher was reported missing yesterday when she did not return home after work. Her body was found in the woods soon after, but police have not released the cause of her death yet.
The Danvers homicide has shaken the small town of around 1,000. Crimes like this are not the norm for this community. Neighbors of the murdered teacher were shocked and had nothing but nice things to say about her.
Chism was seen watching a movie in a local theater at 4:30 yesterday afternoon and last seen around 6 p.m. The theater owner said that he left right after watching the film.
