Chubby Checker will host "My Music: '50s and '60s Party Songs," which will air on PBS nationally beginning May 31, producer TJ Lubinsky announced this week. (Check local listings.) Two highlights of the special will be reunions by Danny & The Juniors ("At The Hop") and The Dovells ("Bristol Stomp"). Both groups will be interviewed by TJ Lubinsky during the show.
The vintage music series has created over 25 TV documentaries for PBS spanning over 7 years. The specials are produced by Lubinsky's production company, TJL Productions LLC.
The lineup for the show will span the music of the '50 and '60s. Featured in the '50s portion of the show will be Bill Haley & the Comets, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby Darin, Fats Domino, Bobby Day, Danny & the Juniors and the Dovells.
The '60s will be divided into three parts. The music of the early '60s will be represented by Chubby Chucker, Tommy James & the Shondells, Martha and the Vandellas, The Gentrys, The Contours, Sam the Sham & the Pharoahs and the Kingsmen.
Representing the mid '60s will be the Temptations, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Manfred Mann, The McCoys, Tommy James & the Shondells and Wilson Pickett. “The Later '60s” will feature Aretha Franklin, The Foundations, Van Morrison, The 5th Dimension and Steam.
