With the upcoming release of “Doctor Sleep,” Stephen King is finally set to answer what happened to Danny after the events in his novel “The Shining.” In “Doctor Sleep” the reader finds Dan all grown up and working at a nursing home in New Hampshire where he uses his “shining” to comfort the elderly that reside there. He eventually meets a young girl named Abra Stone who “shines” with an intensity never seen before. Being around her brings to the forefront the horrors he faced at the Overlook that he’s been trying to dispel his whole life. His attachment to her brings him to battle a group of immortals known as The True Knot that travel looking for people that “shine” so that they can feed off them. King has set this up to be, like so many of his epics, an ultimate battle between good and evil.
“Doctor Sleep” is being released by Scribner on September 24th in hardcover, e-book, and audiobook. It is available for pre-order at all major booksellers both in stores and online. Hopefully it will be as scary and thrilling as “The Shining.”
