Danny Howells releases a new compilation and announces a Brooklyn performance

Legendary DJ and veteran British producer Danny Howells just announced that he will be making an appearance this Sunday, December 15 at Brooklyn’s very, own Panther Room. The announcement comes succinctly with his most recent two disc compilation, Balance 024 that was released to North America on Tuesday, December 10. Howells’s Brooklyn performance is a part of a slew of North American tour dates that have been announced in line with his two disc compilation.

The highly-anticipated Balance 024 adds to Howells’s repertoire of compilations that can be found in any true house music fan’s collections. His numerous Global Underground volumes and Renaissance mixes earned him the reputation of being one of the best musical storytellers in the electronic dance music industry. With Howells’s distinct style and keen ear to original house roots, Balance 024 sets itself apart from what has become the standard in electronic dance music, making it one of the most exciting and anticipated releases represented thus far this year.

When discussing the time-frame since his last release, Danny Howells stated,

“It wasn't an intentional hiatus. I was focusing on my label for a while. I do like having a nice gap between albums though as it allows me to really stockpile the tracks I love so much. It's nice when you come to compile and you've got your favorite tunes from the last few years to pick from. I had a brief discussion with Balance a few years back so knew (hoped!) that a release was possibly still on the cards, so since then I was always semi-consciously thinking about the tracks I was buying and playing that I thought would be suited to an album. I'm talking about tracks that don't really age, and that mainly have some kind of soulful edge… gorgeous subtle melodies and so on. When the album idea was confirmed earlier this year it just boiled down to me filtering all those tracks I'd hoarded, making sure I focused on the ones that still did something to me, even after God knows how many listens.”

Howells’s seamless mixing shines throughout the compilation's entirety in both CD's, as each track layers flawlessly into the next. According to Plexi PR, Howells’s travels and experiences in recent years influenced the tracks chosen within the compilation. In response to what spawned the inspiration for the two disc compilation, Howells’s discusses how the Glastonbury Festival, the largest Greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world, impacted him by stating,

“Glastonbury had a huge impact on me this year and I used some of my time there to work on ideas for this mix….I filled an old iPod with as many of my "shortlist" tracks as I could find and listened to them whenever I was in my camper van. I decided I really wanted to use The Mole’s tracks and the Will Saul remix one morning when the sun was rising and we'd all had a bit of a "moment" up on the hill.”

Howells’s devotion and humanity is apparent throughout both of the CDs, making it a laudable return to add to the "classics" of subsequent compilations in years past. Continuing in true Howells's fashion, the veteran DJ delivers once again to his fans, which attests to his legendary stature in the electronic dance music community.
