After losing his wife, battling with depression, and almost giving up on his dream of music entirely, contemporary Christian recording artist, Danny Gokey, probably couldn't see much hope in front of him when he auditioned for American Idol season 8.

In an interview with Klove radio earlier this year the Idol finalist confessed:

"When I tried out for 'American Idol' it was a month after she (Sophia) passed away. People asked, 'why'd you do that?' Believe me, I didn't want to try out for this show. But I had made a promise to my wife that year that I was going to try out for 'American Idol' and when she passed away, everything inside of my heart said I don't want to try out for the show because I had nothing to say to anybody"

Six years later, the 'Than You Think I Am,' singer has a happier story to tell; A story of how God can take someone's darkest moments and turn them into new beginnings.

Since his American Idol days, Gokey has remarried, started a family, created a non-profit called 'Sophia's Heart' (named after his late wife), and now he's sharing his inspirational tale through soulful ballads and inspiring tracks about grace, redemption, and God's unfailing love. With a message to encourage everyone who hears, it's no surprise that 'Hope In Front of Me' is currently topping the Billboard charts.
