Recently, MTV News spoke to “American Idol” season 8’s third-place finisher Danny Gokey in an attempt to clear up some rumors.
After runner-up Adam Lambert’s June Rolling Stone interview, Gokey and Lambert fans seemed to turn on one another. “They tend to bash each other,” Gokey told MTV News. “There’s a lot of made-up stories about how me and Adam are, behind-the-scenes, like punching each other and fighting. Me and Adam are like, ‘Uh, hi guys, we’re buddies. We’re cool.’”
Lambert told Rolling Stone, “Danny is by the book, and the book is The Word. And I respect that. Just don’t try to push it on me and we’re cool.”
Gokey revealed – presumably in response to the Rolling Stone article -- that the two, when in disagreement, disagreed about “religious beliefs ... but we did it in a very respectful way.” He also said, “I accept gay people, but people have to accept my beliefs. We have to accept their beliefs, but they have to accept my beliefs. We agree to disagree. I don't judge people, but at the same time, if they believe in what they believe, they have to accept me and what I believe. But I accept anybody as they come. That's my character and my personality."
Then, as now, Gokey insisted the two were friends: “... we’d respectfully disagree and we have a great, strong relationship.”
Even messages via Twitter did not convince their respective fans that the two were pals. “But it doesn’t matter!” Gokey said. “They don’t believe it. ‘That’s a false Adam! That’s a false Danny! It’s not them!’ People will assume that.” It wasn’t until Gokey allowed Lambert to use Gokey’s Twitter account to speak to Lambert fans (after a hacking incident) that things began to calm down a little bit.
Still, Gokey says, "At times, I just see fans bash each other."
The Idols are currently on the 50-city American Idols Live! Tour, which ends September 15 in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Just Danny Gokey trying to do some damage control. Nice attempt, but I for one am tired of hearing about the guy. I am a Christian and I am ashamed of some of his actions in the past. Nice try buddy, but please just go away already.
Well, I'm not a Danny fan, but I agree that all the fans get out of control with bashing each other. If Adam has risen above it, we should, too. He's all about being positive, and not letting things get to him. I think that Danny, Michael & all the others have gotten to see just what a great guy Adam is, and they appear to all be friends now.
For most Adam fans Danny Gokey (and his fans) aren't even on the radar. I think Danny is trying to ride Adam's coat tails here.
What is it with you people? No matter what Danny does or say you've got a problem with it. MM, you are a Christian, ummmm, okay if you say so. Danny has done nothing to deserve your obvious dislike of him. Telling him to go away, how about people like you stop reading up on him and then hitting the message boards to bash him to pieces. So, he's not your cup of tea? Adam isn't my preference, but I have never said an unkind thing about him. Adam is not perfect, he has said some things that can certainly be interpreted as being cocky and leave a bad taste in one's mouth but I just don't see people jumping all over him about it. They laugh it off and just shrug and say, "that's just Adam being Adam and we like that about him". Danny is trying to be himself and if you think something is wrong with that, then so be it. I don't expect him to change to a phony to please the likes of you people who still won't like him anyway. Look at all the good he is trying to do for people, especially kids.
I don't walk around bashing Danny, I really don't care about him that much, but I can tell by his language how he feels when he says, I "accept" gay people. Oh and btw, I don't have to "accept" your religious, bigot beliefs, I'm sorry. Just b/c people are Christian, they think they can act morally superior. I'm not talking about all Christians, but being gay myself, these are the people I have to deal with. It just sucks for him that more people are on Adam's side!!! Oh, and as far as the good he's trying to do for kids, if what he is doing is carrying a religious slant, it's called brainwashing in my book, so I don't have to respect that.
Well, I'm an Adam fan and I couldn't care less about Gokey. In fact I didn't watch American Idol until the final because I don't like the show. I just heard Adam's voice and I loved it. I also don't expend all my time bashing Gokey's fans, that's just silly. Those fans(Adam's or Gokey's) who waste their time bashing each other are just being immature. What's the point in doing such thing? Is that productive or reasonable. I don't think so.
Danny gives me the creeps! It does not matter to me that a nice guy like Adam can overlook Danny's obvious envy and befriend him, but I still do not like Danny, his relatives or his fans.
ummmmm. amazing grace, why did Danny write those terrible things on his blog, then on Larry King he said he couldn't quite remember do that or if he had a blog...then well, ya he sort of remembered he wrote a blog..... I don't even know of this bashing that's going on? Where does it take place? I have nothing against Danny's fans, and until this article, nothing against danny. I'll admit..him saying he 'accepts' gay people as if they're an abnormality that someone has the right to choose to accept or not..that completely put me off. Nonetheless, i've never put down gokey or his fans,don't really think about them..well, I didn't until these articles came about. If Glamberts bash Gokey fans, 9 times to 10 it's probably because a Gokey fan said..not something just mean or uncalled for, but something horrible and hateful, and yes, we'll defend and protect Adam to the grave.
To Amazing Grace--I'd really like some examples of when Adam has been cocky. I've watched nearly everything there is to see on Adam,and I've never seen a cocky side of him, and i've never said, 'a well, that's just Adam being Adam.' Adam has been nothing but gracious and humble. He has confidence is all..and rightfully so.
Danny please be quiet. It's much better when u r not in the headlines making a fool of yourself. Adam fans or non-Gokey fans for that matter don't bother bashing Gokey fans they pretty much just ridicule Gokey for being so Hokey. I'm assuming that Gokey fans take offence to it, they really shouldn't take it personally-after all the bashing is directed towards the Gokester not towards them.
Adam is very smart and very kind.That being said,the rest of us are not stuck on a tour bus with Danny and are entitled to our own opinions. I have never wasted my time posting anything hateful. It's not my style nor does it seem to be Adams. I do not hate Danny, I simply do not like him. He seems to lack sincerity.I am not required to like everything or everyone that Adam does. I will respect and support Adam. I am willing to buy his music not this BS.
Danny who? I spend my time keeping an eye on Adam....guess I forgot Danny was still around. My guess is most Adam fans are like me. No time to worry about Danny; it takes all of our time to keep up with everything Adam is involved in and doing! Which BTW, went to a movie tonight and Adam's lovely voice filled the theatre singing Mad World in a preview for a new ABC series called Flash Forward. When the song started, voices in the audience were saying all over the theatre.....that's Adam!!!!!
it's kind of funny....the idol copncert tour starts and EVERYONE sees all the good reactions that Adam has been getting and then all of a sudden....Sarver and Gokey are saying they are Adam's friends....I think they are just trying to get popular before all this tour ends because they will be left nowhere, riding on Adam's fame........
I never even think about Danny--never did. I never watched/listened to the other 8 Idols sing when they were on...I muted the sound! I was just not interested in anyone except Allison and....Adam because he was so fricking talented!
"The Word" is man made anyway--and so much bunk. Who with any intelligence believes it? Not me. Christianity has a history and it's not very pretty.
I think Gokey gives himself too much credit....few people care about him and his beliefs. After the tour is over we'll see what he's got. My personal feeling is he'll dry up and blow away. Best wishes to you Gokey; you're going to need all the help you can get. Just being honest.
to amazing grace Adam has a beautiful spirit-he has a deep understanding of truth in the universe that is why he never says off the wall cocky statements. I cried when I saw his expression when Danny asked him to sign that picture at that party and then when his family made Adam a joke I can not get past it. I am so glad Adam had a leather coat made with hudge coattails --as everyone is jumping on. Adam will be iconic and change music which spills into changing cultures and thinking just as MJ , Beatles & Elvis

This is Danny's way of riding on ADAM's coat tails. He's been under the radar. Has not sign a record deal. No fuss about him on tour. This is Danny trying hard to get notice and on the headlines. Because a mention of ADAM gets anyone in the headlines. And BTW, Danny, no one believes you when you say fans think you and ADAM are punching each other. Sorry, but ADAM is a class act, nothing phony about him. Just take your lessons from ADAM on how to be classy and genuine.
Of course Gokey had Adam use his twitter. He's the ultimate user. Uses the dead ex wife DAILY and uses Adam Lambert's name to get google hits. After forcing Adam to sign the green makeup photo and pose with Gokey's hateful cousin who with her hateful father immediately posted nasty hateful comments against Adam on her website....does he apologize and denounce her? NO he lies and denies all knowledge. Have fun singing at your corporate gigs you loser. Adam Lambert has left you in the dust many months ago. We know what Gokey is.

to me danny is user...a squinty eyed, preachifying screecher. Adam is a humble,honest,countertenor who can sing and perform his @ass off! though it would be better that they are ok with each other since they have to be on that bus so much together.

why do you keep hating on Danny Gokey, he is a fantastic singer of course he has some problems, no ones perfect. I was a fan of him because of his music.
I saw these guys live in Dallas and they were great. Lambert, of course, is nearly ethereal and other worldly and his set flew by in moments. Danny connected well with the audience and looked great. He's lost maybe 20 lbs? Looks like maybe he and others,have gotten (and followed) some fashion advice as well and all the guys sported new hair styles and moves that they didn't have on Idol. Am I seeing Adam's influence at work? If the Idols are dealing with issues in their own ways on the tour, more power to them and their fans shouldn't be trying to project anything else on them. I think they are all very nice in this group and that's one reason why this season's top 10 were so outstanding.
Ten steps forward with Sean Penn's poignant MILK. Eleven steps backward with Adam Lambert's fans and the drama queen entertainment media. I wouldn't march in a gay pride parade if I were you guys, as it is plain to see that you have absolutely NOTHING to be proud of.
