Danish news channel uses Assassin’s Creed photo as Syria fill-in (Photos)

As of yesterday, Danish news channel TV2 admitted that the backdrop used in the screenshot above was in fact from Assassin’s Creed.

The image (see above) was aired behind news anchor Cecilie Beck on Febuary 26th; a moment that will likely prove to be one of the more memorable moments in her news reporting career.

Head of News at TV2 Jacob Nybroe says he learned of the mistake last week following speculation on the origin of the picture from popular social media sites. The mistake occurred when one of the channel’s employees mistakenly believed the photo to be a shot of Damascus’ skyline.

Nybroe admits the mistake and says this is a “reminder to us all of the importance of verifying the sources of pictures.”

So rest easy knowing that even someone as accomplished as the head of a news channel can screw up and mistake Syria for a dangerous, quasi-virtual, Holy War setting.

Well, it makes me feel good anyways.

The video can supposedly be watched here, however I have yet to get the player to work so your mileage may vary.
