Danielle Fishel explains the name 'Topanga'

Danielle Fishel played Topanga Lawrence on the 1990s sitcom, “Boy Meets World,” and is reprising her role in the new sitcom, “Girl Meets World.” According to a March 9 article in USA Today, Fishel recently told Maxim Magazine how the unusual name, Topanga, came about. It is not nearly as exotic as viewers might think.

According to Fishel, the creator of “Boy Meets World,” Michael Jacobs, explains that he was driving past Topanga Canyon when the production called and needed a name for her character, and he went with it! If they had called a few miles later, she would have been named something else.

Danielle Fishel also has met several little girls named Topanga, and they were all named after her character. She said that she even gets tweets from people who tell her of someone named Topanga in their family.

Fans of the original, 1990s “Boy Meets World,” are eagerly awaiting the new spin-off, “Girl Meets World,” and Fishel seems excited as well.

Danielle Fishel is 31 years old, and she is engaged to be married, but not to Ben Savage who plays her long-time beau and now husband, Cory Mathews.
