NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series fans were treated to a great race at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday night. Daniel Suarez made a last lap pass of Antonio Perez and battled defending series champ Rodrigo Peralta to win the Toyota 120 by .097 seconds.
It was Suarez's fourth consecutive NASCAR series win and a great way to start the 2014 season.
“Amazing. It's crazy how things are working out right now,” Suarez said. “2014. It's amazing how we opened up the season.”
Perez ended up in third place, .392 seconds behind Suarez. Perlata passed Perez on the last turn of the last lap to secure second place.
“This race we were the fastest car out there and it's quite sad to not finish at the top,” Perez said. “I'm a little bit frustrated to be honest with you.”
Suarez is beginning to feel at home at Phoenix International Raceway. At PIR he has a pair of Top 10 finishes in three career K&N Pro Series West races and last season he finished 11th at the Toyota 120.
“I really feel like I am home,” Suarez said. “Everybody here feels like they know me already. We have a good relationship with everyone.”
