Coming off an impressive first-round KO, Daniel Spohn switched things up and showcased his grappling ability in a two-round unanimous decision win over Todd Monaghan on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Ultimate Fighter 19.”

Spohn landed several takedowns in the fight and all three judges scored the fight 20-18 in favor of the Columbus, Ohio native. Spohn’s victory was part of episode three of “TUF 19” and it aired on FOX Sports 1.

Prior to his victory on episode three, Spohn violently knocked out Tyler King on the debut episode of “TUF 19.” Spohn was one of eight light heavyweights to earn a victory on the debut episode.

Like his first fight on the show, Spohn opened up the fight with a left kick. After a series of feints from both fighters, Spohn landed a straight left and followed it up with a takedown.

Spohn worked his way to mount and started to work on locking down an arm-triangle choke. Monaghan was able to defend and eventually was able to scramble back to his feet.

Spohn quickly responded with another takedown but Monaghan was looking for a kimura once it hit the ground. The father of four was able to break free and controlled the fight on the ground for the rest of the opening round.

A lot like the first round, Spohn controlled the second and final round with takedowns and top control. Spohn landed three more takedowns in the round and was able to execute his game plan throughout the fight.

“I feel really good about my fight,” Spohn said on the show. “I wanted to show some of my other skill set and that is exactly what I did.”

With the win, Spohn advances on to the semi-finals and is now just one win away from the live finale in Las Vegas in July. If he can win two more fights, he will earn a six-figure UFC contract.
