Daniel Gillies, who recently announced that he has signed on with “The Original,” says that the “Vampire Diaries” spin off will feature feature flashbacks much like “TVD” (ATV Today, Jan 30). Gillies who will be reprising his role of Elijah says that not only will the show feature current goings-on in New Orleans but also the original vamp families history.
Gillies says producer Julie Plec, has been playing with the idea of a spin off for a while told Entertainment Weekly “It will be about both the contemporary — where we are now and what we are up to — and also will flash back to show what the f–k happened to us to bring us to this moment.”
Gillies also hopes that Elijah, the seemingly moral brother of Klaus (Joseph Morgan) will be able to avoided being staked after the move to The Big Easy. He jokingly said “Four times I got staked so far,” he said. “I was always like, “What the f–k? Why do you keep staking me? What’s wrong with Elijah? Is it his jackets?” Hopefully in the spinoff there will be no more staking for Elijah.”
Gillies says he was unprepared for the worldwide popularity of “The Vampire Diaries.” He says that fans have approached him saying “'I f**king love Elijah! I've seen every episode!' I didn't realise how globally-popular the show was. I've never been part of anything like this. The humble actor also mentions that his fellow castmates have noticed that Elijah doesn’t get any love on “TVD:” "Maybe they've taken pity on me because I'm not as attractive as them," jokes Daniel. "I have no idea why they're speaking so fondly of me." Hopefully this little detail will change in the near future.
"I just thought it was a cool idea she threw around and I did not dare to dream that it would come to fruition. I knew that if it did, we would be a part of it, but I didn’t want to get ahead of myself. But I feel very blessed that it is closer to becoming a reality now.”
“The Original” pilot episode is set to air during “The Vampire Diaries” April 25.
