Daniel Craig has been confirmed to star in the highly anticipated American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. The James Bond star will play journalist Mikael Blomkvist. The role of Lisbeth Salander is yet to be cast, as Carey Mulligan took herself out of the running last week.
The "Casino Royale" actor will star in the film as Mikael Blomkvist, an investigative journalist who finds himself in the thick of a dangerous mystery involving the disappearance nearly 40 years earlier of a wealthy industrialist's niece. It's currently unknown whether the character's name, nationality and the story's Swedish setting will change for the American adaptation, to be written by screenwriter Steve Zaillian.
Craig's deal is said to include option for The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest. The trilogy was written by the late Stieg Larsson.
You can see the Swedish version of the film in Houston, where it's currently playing at the historic River Oaks Theater until July 29. Check out the trailer for the film below.

I'm just reading this and I'm a huge Daniel Craig fan.. so I'm sure I'll love it.
Very cool - I can't wait to see who they cast as the female lead... so many names going around. I think he'll be a good fit.
Okay...I haven't even looked at these novels so I guess I better take a gander 'cause I don't want to miss a Daniel Craig movie.
Wow...that will be very interesting. Now to see who they cast for the female lead.
