The film, “Skyfall” starring Daniel Craig brought in $1.1 billion in box office sales. Craig has already signed on for two films to follow.
MGM reported on Tuesday that another James Bond flick will appear in theaters in the next three years, with a new director. Sam Mendes has opted out for any future franchise films.
The script is being penned now for the next release – “James Bond 24.” The Bond series of films is 50-years-old.
Executive Officer Gary Barber states the MGM studio is “very excited about the franchise.” With the amount of money these films have made over the years, they should be excited.
Barber goes on to state:
We are currently developing the screenplay [for “24”] and working with our partners. We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director. We are hoping within the next three years it will be released.
There are no details about casting choices, although Craig has signed on as agent 007 in the next two films.
“Skyfall,” starring Craig, has impressed critics. Mendes left the franchise to spend his time on his theater projects for the future.
The studio was happy and thankful for the work Mendes did on ‘Skyfall.’ Mendes helped the studio triple their income from the 2012 net with “Skyfall” and “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”
