The rumors can be put to rest, as Daniel Craig has officially signed on to the much-anticipated remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Google News reports that the actor best known for playing the latest incarnation of James Bond will strap on his sleuthing shoes as investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the American film version of the late Stieg Larsson's bestselling Swedish novel.
David Fincher will direct the film. Craig is also in talks to reprise the role in adaptations of Larsson's sequels, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.
Still no word on who will play Blomkvist's contemporary, complicated hacker Lisbeth Salander, though Carey Mulligan and Kristen Stewart have been mentioned.
Film adaptations of all three Larsson books--also known as The Millenium Trilogy--have been filmed in Sweden and are being released in the United States by Chicago's own Music Box Films. The Girl Who Played With Fire is currently playing at the Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport). Click here for showtimes.
