On May 24, 2013 at UFC 173, UFC fighter Daniel Cormier faced the 43-year-old Dan Henderson, graduate of Victor Valley High School in Victorville, California. Cormier fought Henderson in the co-main event of the evening at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In the first round, Cormier wasted little time taking down Henderson. Cormier spent most of the first round keeping his opponent on the mat and hitting his opponent. At one point in the round, Cormier had a crucifix on Henderson. Henderson, however, was able to survive the round.
In the second round, Cormier again got a quick takedown on Henderson. Cormier punished Henderson with ground strikes and tried to get another crucifix on Henderson. Unable to get the crucifix, Cormier continued to hurt Henderson with strikes. The round ended with Henderson trying to fight his way to his feet.
In the third round, Cormier landed a takedown on Henderson again. Cormier spent much of the round controlling and hurting Henderson. When Henderson tried to get to his feet, Cormier grabbed Henderson's neck and locked in a rear naked choke. Not wanting to tap, Henderson passed out. The referee stopped the fight, and Cormier improved his perfect record to 15-0.
Cormier has looked impressive in the 205-pound division. In the near future, he may prove to be a tough challenger for the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jon Jones.
