Daniel Bell, father of blips and bleeps comes to DC, July 23, 10 pm -late

You don’t know house, if you don’t know Daniel Bell.  Period.  And on July 23rd, 88 and ESL are simply ecstatic to present an evening with the Detroit legend himself-- who's trademark style slides between deep house and techno, to raw Chicago-styled grooves. Daniel Bell grew up outside of Toronto, Canada, and later moved to Detroit where he collaborated with Richie Hawtin as Cybersonik for three years on Plus 8 records.

While living in Detroit during the 90's, Daniel Bell created a whole new musical vocabulary for techno music based on "Blips" and "Bleeps" and streamlined repetitive rhythms. His music went on to influence a generation of producers from Josh Wink and Richie Hawtin to the minimal house sound in Germany.

In 1991, he started his own label, Accelerate, where he released a string of influential releases as DBX. Bell was influenced primarily by Chicago House as well as the works of Steve Reich and Philip Glass.  (And who does not like Philip Glass?!!!)  His productions are characterized by minimalist house grooves accented by blips and bleeps. Some tracks also feature bizarre voice effects and eerie atmospherics such as 1994’s delay driven “Losing Control”.  Taste here.
