Danica Patrick is out at the Saturday (Feb. 23) Nationwide race after an ignition failure. Patrick was out of the race after just 30 laps when her car lost power going into Turn 3. According to a report from Yahoo!, she ended up making a big mistake by taking her car into the garage rather than going straight to pit road. It turns out that the problem with her car could have been fixed and that she could have been right back out on the track.
Early reports are stating that her mistake comes from inexperience on the track, but it's hard to fault a driver for taking their car off the track when it completely dies during a race. The adrenaline probably kicked up a notch, along with the disappointment that her car had let her down so early into the 120-lap race. Commenting on her decision, Patrick stated that this was, "A good lesson that if there was a potential fix at some point, you know you just always go down pit lane and get in your pit box and just do everything possible to fix it."
Now that Danica Patrick is out of the Saturday Nationwide race, she can begin refocusing on what might be the biggest race of her life on Sunday (Feb. 24). Patrick sits on the pole of the 2013 Daytona 500 and has an inside track to possibly create some history on the track. It will certainly be a tough race for her to go from the pole to the checkered flag in the lead, but her car clearly looks good enough to make some noise.
