Danica Patrick hits wall is topping U.S. sports headlines this weekend, as Yahoo! Sports News reported this Sunday, March 3, that talented race car driver Danica Patrick’s race following the Daytona 500 was a rather surprising and even dangerous one. In addition to performing below many fans’ expectations in Phoenix, she was also involved in a crash on the track in which Patrick lost a tire.
Under the headline “Craziest moment from Phoenix: Danica Patrick hits wall hard after losing a tire”, sources report that Patrick lost a tire during lap 176 on Sunday’s Subway 500 at the Phoenix International Raceway, smashing into the wall. The accident brought in David Ragan as well — Ragan hit Patrick’s vehicle so that it sheared off of the sheetmetal not unlike a can opener. Safety foam was then automatically sprayed from the inside of the car.
Fortunately, the NASCAR star walked away from the accident not seriously hurt, and she wasn’t the only driver today to have to deal with some tire problems. While the Danica Patrick hits wall headline may be trending, her teammate Ryan Newman and a few others had also knocked against the wall due to tire issues. Phoenix Raceway’s layout and track is tough on brakes, which may have contributed to the problem, particularly as right brake tires can face issues when brake heat buildup accumulates in the corners.
Patrick began 40th in the race and due to car handling issues, was unable to make much progress before the NASCAR star crashed, finishing 39th.
