NASCAR driver Danica Patrick is filing for divorce. The popular Sprint Cup Series driver has cited an "irretrievably broken" marriage as the cause for her upcoming split with husband Paul Hospenthal.
According to ESPN, Patrick filed for divorce on Jan. 3, in the Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County, according to documents obtained by ESPN.com on Monday.
"My marriage is irretrievably broken and there is no reasonable prospect of reconciliation," Patrick said in the filing that she signed on Dec. 31.
"I am sad to inform my fans that after 7 years, Paul and I have decided to amicably end our marriage," she wrote. "This isn't easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life and that's how we will remain moving forward."
For being a very popular figure in NASCAR, and sporting an impressive career in various commercials, modeling ads, and as one of the top GoDaddy girls, Patrick has done a great job of keeping her private life just that - private.
However the reasons for her divorce will probably become public over time.
The early odds to win the 2013 Sprint Cup have Patrick at 250/1. It will be interesting to see over the next month if her personal life affects her racing style and her upcoming odds.
