Danica, Danica, Danica!

Just when NASCAR fans thought it was safe to try and look at NASCAR news once more, Danica fever has heated up again.

Talk of Danica Patrick’s purported flirtation with NASCAR dominated headlines in the second half of the season, cooling just long enough to allow the news of Jimmie Johnson’s historic fourth consecutive title to slip through.

But last week as most were sitting down for Thanksgiving, GoDaddy.com hinted of a ‘big announcement’ concerning Danica Patrick on Monday. The web hosting company, known primarily for its titillating ads showing women -including Patrick-removing various layers of clothing, has been an associate sponsor for Patrick who also has a personal services contract with the company.

The website posted a teaser ad on their web site about the BIG Monday announcement and late Saturday news filtered out that Patrick would appearing on “Good Morning America”.

So does all this mean that Patrick will announce Monday that she is indeed going to at least test the NASCAR waters? Probably not. What all the hype amounts to is nothing short of brilliant PR, nothing more.

The PR people for both GoDaddy and Patrick have seized on the NASCAR whisper and are using it to draw people to the GD website and spur interest in their announcement.

It’s almost certain that what will be announced Monday is Patrick re-signing with her current IndyCar team Andretti-Green, which according to several published reports, happened several weeks ago. GoDaddy may assume a larger sponsor role with the IndyCar team, but its highly unlikely that beyond maybe a test, NASCAR will even be mentioned.

In fact one thing is almost a given; after GoDaddy signed to sponsor Mark Martin in the Sprint Cup Series next season, it’s highly unlikely that the company would be involved with sponsoring Patrick in NASCAR, so their involvement with the ‘BIG’ announcement makes a stock car future even more unlikely.

As she seemed to do several years ago, Patrick has used NASCAR as a means to her own end. When she was last looking at an IndyCar contract, there were rumors that she would give NASCAR a try. Again this year, the rumors started once more, interestingly the same year her IndyCar contract is up for renewal.

Both times, IndyCar teams, and no doubt the sanctioning body itself, jumped through hoops at the mere thought of their most marketable star jumping ship and heading to the NASCAR world. Patrick of course had no intention of coming to NASCAR. She signed her last contract and all reports indicate she has done the same this time around. That’s what Monday’s ‘BIG ‘ announcement is most likely about.

After it’s done Patrick has cast NASCAR aside since it’s served her purpose, again. And that’s just a shame, but also another reason NASCAR doesn’t need Danica Patrick.

UPDATE: No NASCAR For Patrick, As Official Announcement is Made

"after GoDaddy signed to sponsor Mark Martin in the Sprint Cup Series next season, it’s highly unlikely that the company would be involved with sponsoring Patrick in NASCAR,"

I would hope that's the third of fourth point in your line of thought in coming to this conclusion.

If it's not and has been given more priority you may be wrong.

Nothing but money an opportunity keeps one sponsor from sponsoring cars in both series or to take it further the truck series.

Given GoDaddy's estimated 25 to 30 million, on the high side, spent on the number 5 ride it wouldn't take much more to write an NNS check for 5 to 10 events.

Can you say "marketing"? Danica is very good at it. She is much more than a driver. She is a brand. It makes perfect sense to have GoDaddy involved in both her IRL and NASCAR future. The fact the GoDaddy signed with Martin makes perfect sense for a close relationship given Hendrick's relationship with Jr. It will all be connected. Only the best. It is how Danica rolls.

swagner863 That's true it is how she "rolls."

That said I highly suspect her big announcement Monday will be a part time ARCA ride, not NASCAR.
