Punters and horseracing tipsters will get a chance to wager on Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Danedream who will have her first start in England on Saturday. The Peter Schiergen-trained Danedream will compete in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Danedream currently heads the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings for Saturday's contest. She won the Baden-Baden last May but will face stiff competition at Ascot.
Trainer John Gosden could unleash Nathaniel, who won the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown two weeks ago, and may also run last year's St Leger winner Masked Marvel. Heading into the meeting, St Nicholas Abbey is regarding by betting tipsters as the ante-post favourite after a strong display at Epsom.
In other news, Starspangledbanner could return to horse racing this weekend in the seven furlong Minstrel Stakes after proving infertile at stud. Starspangledbanner was a Group 1 winner for Ballydoyle in 2010 after winning the Golden Jubilee Stakes and the July Cup.
He came in as runner-up to Sole Power in the Nunthorpe Stakes. At his peak, Starspangledbanner was rated 128 by Timeform.
This past Saturday, Newmarket Racecourse announced solid attendance despite rainfall throughout the week. Amy Starkey, managing director, commented: “[The] crowd of 10,902 is slightly up on last year’s figure (10,736 ) for the same day and that is tremendous when you bear in mind the very wet conditions we’ve experienced over the last 18 hours.”
About 19 millimetres of rain fell on Newmarket between Friday night and race time on Saturday.
