During the time of Queen Victoria in the late 1800's, and into the reign of King Edward at the turn of the century, the world was regarded as a prosperous time; a time of great change. Soon after came WWI, and in its aftermath came the Jazz Age of the 1920's. There was a revolution in every aspect of human existence. Fashion was no exception.
People were on the move and attitudes livened giving an edgier take on life that was certainly reflected in the clothing. Stunning textiles and fabrics donned spirited and emerging fashion trends, especially in menswear. Men everywhere flaunted dapper suits, sophisticated accessories in pocket watches and bow ties, and of course the classic touch of a hat. This was a time when men everywhere took great pride in their outward appearances. A fashion era, that to this day, captures beauty in all of its essence.
As the decades rolled on however, this pride slowly dissipated. Materials and textiles cheapened while the clothing became drab. The classic and polished silhouettes, paired with the quality once seen in garments, all but disappeared. Only now has the fashion industry begun to revive its long-lost love for men's fashion in brands like Trumaker and Haberdash.
Dandy's, a bespoke haberdashery located in the heart of downtown Austin, takes this revival one step further by bringing a touch of nostalgia into custom menswear. Inspired to bring the turn of the century gentleman back to life, the cleverly chosen name in Dandy's is for the man unduly devoted to style. Dedicated to not only renewing the quality since lost in custom clothing, Dandy's specializes in fashions from the 1870's through the 1930's, complete with accessories and footwear.
Founded by husband and wife - Christopher and Wendy - the couple opened the doors of Dandy's upon the realization that stylish, affordable and well-tailored suits were not so easy to come by. Thus, their business goes far beyond just dressing the contemporary man. The desire to provide a unique experience is integrated into everything they do; from the way they design, to the atmosphere within the store, to the way the business is run. The vision is to rekindle a reminiscence in every appointment where the client and clothier have a personal relationship.
This happy duo believes every gentleman requires to be properly outfitted from head to toe, both for his daily endeavors and special occasions. Dandy's designs hearken a time when men were effortlessly dapper and attention to the finishing details was standard. And having recently launched a new collection of ready-to-wear, handmade hats and boots [both made here in the great state of Texas], there is no better time to make your appointment. You'll soon be as debonair as Jay Gatsby himself.
