You know the semifinals are not far away when team dances on “Dancing with the Stars” are part of that week’s repertoire. A series of perfect 10 scores from the judges were given out Monday night during the standard individual dances. Jack Osbourne and his partner, Cheryl Burke, received their first 10 from judge Carrie Ann Inaba. Amber Riley and Corbin Bleu were awarded two 10s and one nine, just missing out on perfect scores. Host Tom Bergeron announced at the onset a very special celebrity, Cher, will be guest judge and guest artist for Week 8. Her son Chaz Bono appeared as a competitor during Season 13.
During the week of team dances, the couples not only have to learn their competitive routine, but another routine featuring other couples. Most seasons these dances are good to watch, but not too thrilling. That all changed during week 7 when the teams, Spooky Bom Bom and Foxing Awesome, featured a Halloween theme extravaganza.
First up was Team “Spooky Bom Bom” with Bill Engvall, Leah Remini, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, and Nicole Polizzi. Their dance was a nod to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” complete with a graveyard setting and dancing zombies. The song was, appropriately enough, “Bom Bom” by Sam and the Womp. Bill Engvall impressively started off this highly entertaining dance that closed with Nicole being thrown in a ceiling high cheerleading jump. Ironically, Bill and Nicole would later be in the bottom two during the elimination at the end.
The night literally belonged to Team “Foxing Awesome” who consisted of the season’s best dancers: Brant Daugherty, Amber Riley, Corbin Bleu, and Jack Osbourne. It was by far the best team dance in the show’s history. The choreography was spot on from start to finish. Each of the couples had their individual solos. Corbin and Karina stole the show with their brilliant mirrored hand movements and fast-paced lifts. If someone had turned on the TV watching this routine, most likely they’d think these were only pro dancers. Unfortunately the downside was this ridiculous song “"The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)" by Ylvis, supposedly an internet sensation. At least this team made the song work in their favor.
Deservedly Foxing Awesome received a perfect score of 30, while all members were safe from elimination. Spooky Bom Bom gained an impressive 27 points. Sadly, someone was going home from that team. As mentioned earlier Bill and Nicole were the two left standing. In another shocking elimination of Season 17, it was a tearful Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi who was sent home.
