The 16th season of “Dancing With the Stars” kicks off tonight, and there will be some fresh new faces on the dance floor, including freshman pro dancers Sharna Burgess, Lindsay Arnold, and Gleb Savchenko. On March 17, “Dancing With the Stars” spoiler site Pure DWTS posted the anticipated dance order for the show’s premiere, as well as the dance styles this season’s 12 new couples will perform.
And on March 17, TV Guide reported that the show’s executive producer Conrad Green says its “back to basics” following last fall’s lackluster all-stars season.
“It’s quite nice this season to go back to fresh faces, people completely unfamiliar with dance and get back to that kind of innocence," Green said. "There's definitely a vibrancy and energy and excitement that comes with feeling like we're back on our usual course."
Green also said, "It all starts with the cast and I think we've got a great one. It's one of our youngest ever. I think half of them are around the age of 25. That mixed with our older stars from their fields is a great cocktail."
Of this season’s new pro dancers, he added, "New blood is so important. The people who are your favorites now are only your favorites because they were introduced years ago. “
Also on tap for this season: New dance styles such as contemporary and jazz, which are the first additions since Season 9. (Last season theses dances were only featured during the theme week combos.) Fans can also look forward to weekly themes like Prom Night and The Best Year of Your Life.
