Dancing with the Stars season 18 week 7 recap

It was Latin night on the show. Superstar Ricky Martin opened the show, performing his song “Vida.” He was also this week’s guest judge. And, the season is clearly taking a toll on the contestants—Danica broke a rib in rehearsals and Amy was taken to the hospital between her dance with Derek and her team dance due to back pain. It’s not hard to see why—most of the couples really brought it this week:

Amy Purdy and Derek Hough: This rumba was emotional for Amy—she got a little teary in rehearsals over the challenges of her personal life—but the dance was lovely. Her lines seem to get even more polished each week. And, she are Derek are a dream together. Score: 36

James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd: Peta often puts the sexy in her choreography, but this week's samba was pretty overt. That said, the dancing was some of James' best. The judges enjoyed it. Score: 35

Danica McKellar and Val Chemkovskiy: Danica’s injuries seemed to hold her back a little bit, but she pulled it off in the salsa. The judges were divided. Score: 33

NeNe Leakes and Tony Dovolani: Their Argentine tango continued the high and low points of NeNe’s dancing. She created a great character, but the technique to back it up still wasn’t there. Score: 31

Charlie White and Sharna Burgess: This paso doble wasn’t Charlie’s best dance. He shines when he can show off his elegant lines, but he wasn’t crisp enough to do this dance justice. Len flat-out said it just wasn’t standout to him. Score: 36

Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas: The package showed Candace visiting a sports psychologist. It seemed to help her break out of her shell. Their Argentine tango was easily her best dance since the first week. Her lines looked great. Score: 35

Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: This salsa didn’t really do it for me—Meryl seemed a little bit clumsy, especially when she was dancing with the other women from the troupe. The judges thought she did a great job, though. Len nitpicked that it was over-produced. Score: 39

This week also marked the first of the team dances. Since Amy was injured, they judged her team dance based on dress rehearsal footage.

Team Vida: This one showcased the men. It had lots of energy and fun. Carrie Ann appreciated the team giving NeNe some time to shine. Score: 35

Team Loca: This dance had great solos. The whole team seemed very together. Even Len is impressed. Score: 39

NeNe and Tony were eliminated.
