Tonight is the big night as season 17 of “Dancing with the Stars” makes its exciting premiere. “GMA” correspondent Melissa Rycroft, who also happens to be the “DWTS” season 15 winner, went behind the scenes to chat with the nervous cast as the segment aired on "Good Morning America" on Sept. 16.
The couples were in their final rehearsals before dancing live tonight and the stars talked about how nervous and terrified they really are. They are said to be restricted to just four hours each day for their initial rehearsals to be ready for their debut on the ballroom floor in front of millions of people. The nerves are starting to show, but the celebrities are also excited to see how far they can go.
Brant Daugherty will be shaking his booty with pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd. He joked around saying that his partner seemed so sweet and unassuming at first, but is quite intimidating at rehearsals. She also has ‘the look.’ The “Pretty Little Liars” star said that he starts sweating a little bit and is afraid she will start yelling at him. It sounds like these two like to joke around quite a bit.
Corbin Bleu calls his partner, Karina Smirnoff, very tough. He says that it’s not that she is difficult because she is the easiest person to get along with. She is just tough as she wants to be ready for their dancing debut tonight.
Valerie Harper says that she is feeling good but she does have a strained knee, which is being taken care of. Many critics have wondered if she should be dancing with her terminal cancer diagnosis. However, Harper says that you can still have cancer and still live life. She also said, “I wouldn’t be doing this if it was endangering me in any way.”
Jack Osbourne, who recently was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, says that just because you get diagnosed with MS doesn’t mean that your life stops. He seems excited to be putting it all out there to see what he can accomplish.
“Glee” star Amber Riley wants to spread a message while she is taking part in the reality show. She said, "You know, I really want young girls that look just like me to feel - just get out there and move and dance.” She is sure to be an inspiration to her young fans.
One “DWTS” tidbit that was shared is that Karina Smirnoff starts every show eating some dark chocolate for good luck. Maybe that is the ticket to win this competition!
“Dancing with the Stars” premieres tonight at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
Who do you think will take home that mirror ball trophy this season?
