"Dancing With the Stars" Season 17 got off to a very good start on Sept. 16 on ABC.
In some cases, head judge Len Goodman was not stingy with his scores. In fact, none of the judges were except in a few cases.
This is the very first time a contestant has gotten a "9" for the first dance. Amber Riley and her partner four-time champion, Derek Hough, received the highest score of the night when all three judges gave them a "9" for dancing the Cha Cha for a total of 27.
Riley has been preparing very hard and it paid off. The 27-year-old "Glee" star said she has been rehearsing four hours a day six days a week.
Bill Nye, the science guy and his new professional partner Tyne Stecklein didn't do well. They received the lowest total score of only 14 points. Nye didn't do a good job of dancing, but he connected with the audience. It will be too bad if they do not get enough votes to stay.
The format has changed from previous seasons. "Dancing With the Stars" used to be on two nights a week; however, the show this season is on only on Monday night each week.
One couple will be eliminated next week. Let's watch to see who it will be.
P.S. From the above picture, you can tell who got this writer's votes on the first night.
