The Dancing With the Stars season 17 cast was announced earlier today, and surprisingly, there were some surprises in the cast. According to a Sept. 4 ABC News report, not only were the cast members a surprise to the audience, the DWTS cast will also receive surprises for season 17.
One of the names that had been kept fairly quiet was Bill Nye the Science Guy. Another surprise is that swimmer Ryan Locte was not announced as a Dancing With the Stars season 17 cast member. Previously his name had been thrown in with the rumors. Another no show on the season 17 DWTS cast was TV personality Farrah Abraham. Jason Varitek was also included in the cast rumors, but he is not one of the official cast members either. It seems that ABC may have intentionally leaked some untrue rumors to keep at least a bit of the cast a secret.
Actor John Stamos did not join the cast as previously rumored. Neither did comedian Seth MacFarlane, or celebrity chef Paula Deen. Country singer Jo Dee Messina was another rumored member who did not end up on the official list of DWTS season 17 cast members. Sadly, Patricia "Tan Mom" Krentcil, was not a cast member either.
Throughout the past few weeks, there were tons of rumors about who potential cast members would be, and while some turned out to be true, several were not so true. Were you surprised by any of the Dancing With the Stars 2013 cast? The official cast and pairings are Amber Riley with Derek Hough, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi with Sasha Farber, Brant Daugherty with Peta Murgatroyd, Leah Remini with Tony Dovolani, Corbin Bleu with Karina Smirnoff, Christina Milian with Mark Ballas, Valerie Harper with Tristan MacManus, Bill Nye with Tyne Stecklein, Keyshawn Johnson with Sharna Burgess, Elizabeth Berkley with Val Chmerkovskiy, Bill Engval with Emma Slater, and Jack Osbourne with Cheryl Burke.
The final surprise about season 17 is that the show will air only one time each week this year. Paul Lee said,
"We really wanted to focus and event-ize Dancing With the Stars. I know [executive producer] Conrad [Green] is having a whole lot of fun contracting a night on Monday that not only gives you the dances but the results. Effectively what we're doing is we're taking the votes from the judges and the votes from the audience and bringing them together at the end. Conrad has worked through a really interesting two hours. It builds to a climax at the end."
This will be a change for viewers, but it sounds like it will be a great one. In OKC you can catch DWTS on ABC channel 5 on Monday nights at 7 p.m. starting on Sept. 16.
