The cast of the new season of “DWTS” was announce on “Good Morning America” March 4. It’s an ecletic list, to say the least, but it mirrors previous seasons in its mix of contestants with a dance or athletic background who are front runners and celebrities with no previous dance training. Here are this season’s contestants and their pro dancer partners.
Ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White (who just won a gold medal as a pair in Sochi), will be paired with Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Sharna Burgess, respectively. Reality TV star NeNe Leakes will dance with Tony Dovolani. Actress Candace Camereon Bure is paired with Mark Ballas. Former child star Danica McKellar has Valentin Chmerkovskiy as her pro partner. Swimmer Diana Nyad will dance with new partner Henry Byalikov. Comedian and TV host Drew Carey is paired with former champion Cheryl Burke. Pop star James Maslow will perform with Peta Murgatroyd. Teen singer Cody Simpson will dance with Witney Carson. Paralympic athlete Amy Purdy is slated to dance with Derek Hough. Ex-hockey player Sean Avery is paired with Karina Smirnoff. Actor Billy Dee Williams will be partnered by Emma Slater.
This season will also be the first with FOX Sports’ Erin Andrews replacing former co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet. Burke-Charvet was let go earlier this year in a shake-up that also ousted music director Harold Wheeler and his band. Host Tom Bergeron is still on the series. Season 18 premieres March 17 on ABC.
