The day “Dancing with the Stars” fans have both expected and dreaded has finally arrived Maks Chmerkovskiy is leaving the show. According to TMZ on Feb. 222, the Russian dancer won’t even be appearing on the next season starting in March as was previously thought. The ballroom will be one Russian short for the upcoming season. Rumors of his departure emerged shortly after the All-Star Season 15 ended but were quickly squelched.
Maks, known as the “bad boy of the ballroom, “ added a certain spark to the show with his candid and often un edited remarks to his partners during rehearsals and to the judges during competitions. A staple with the show since seasn 2, Maks has never won the championship to take home the mirror ball trophy in spite of having squired some very talented partners.
Some of his partners have included Sports reporter Erin Andrews and boxer Laila Ali. Both made it to fourth place with Maks. Actress Kirstie Alley and Spice Girl Mel B. both made to second place with the hunky dancer at their sides.
According to TMZ, Maks isn’t planning to go far away. His hopes include a future in television and film, just not with “Dancing with the Stars.” As for fans wo look forward to that Chmerkovskiy finesse, Maks’ brother Val plans to stay with the show.
Watch for the season 16 cast announcement for “DWTS” on Feb. 26. The new season begins on March 18 on ABC at 7 p.m.
