Are you a fan of Dancing With the Stars? Then, you may be interested in knowing that the borough of Gettysburg is conducting its own version of Dancing with the Local Stars.

The YWCA of Gettysburg and Adams County are bringing together a cast of local celebrities in the community in what is one of its largest fundraisers and most anticipated events to start off the new year—Dancing with the Local Stars. As the fourth installment for this newer annual event, Dancing With the Stars 2014 will include: Julie Berger, Mark Clowney, Charlie Gomer Dwight Michael and Jake Schindel.

“We are really excited about this year’s lineup and really appreciate all of the work the stars and choreographers have committed to making this a successful event,” Alex Hayes commented. Hayes works to coproduce this show along with Jennifer King, YWCA Sports and Fitness Director.

Julie Berger is a local dentist at Samuels Dental Arts P.C. in Gettysburg. She will be joined by Steve Gibson, a competitive dancer from the Lancaster area, in a dance for this year’s crown. Likewise, a local resource planner for Adams County, Mark Clowney, will partner with Dawn Glass, artistic director of the Pulse Performance Company and Vibe Performing Arts. Charlie Gomer is a retired teacher from the Gettysburg Area School District who now works as a master gardener with the Penn State Extension. But his newest title may include “dancer” as he teams up with Brigid Willis, a freelance choreographer from the Gettysburg area for this year’s dance off. Jake Schindel is the owner of Ragged Edge Coffeehouse, which has a main location on Chambersburg Street as well as satellite locations at HACC Gettysburg, the YWCA and on Steinwehr Avenue. He also serves as a member of the Gettysburg Borough Council and will be dancing in this year’s Dancing with the Stars alongside Rachel Smith, owner and executive director of Gettysburg Dance Center. Dwight Michael, a doctor with Gettysburg Family Practice, will take the stage with Holly Fox, a freelance choreographer from Gettysburg.

This year’s cast has been working diligently this fall under the careful direction and guidance of their instructors. Now everyone is ready to show off their fancy moves on Jan. 17 when they take to the stage of the Majestic Theater. Each team will dance the Foxtrot in the first act and then their own dance selections during the second act.

Will the champion of the 4th Annual Dancing with the Local Stars be a dentist, doctor, resource planner, retired teacher or a coffee shop owner? As a member of the audience, your votes will determine the winner, but a panel of three local judges will provide color commentary throughout the show.

Dancing with the Local Stars will be live at the Majestic Theater, located at 25 Carlisle Street, on Jan. 17, starting at 7 p.m. Ticket prices range from $23, $25 and $28 dollars, with all proceeds benefitting the YWCA.
