“Dancing with the Stars” Season 17 is already underway and tonight one contestant sent home. Week 1 brought out some early surprises and gave the voters many numbers to choose from. Dancing this season for the mirrored ball trophy are “One Life to Live” actor Corbin Bleu, Amber Riley of “Glee,” actress Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, actor Brant Daugherty, TV legend Valerie Harper, athlete Keyshawn Johnson, singer Christina Millian, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Leah Remini, Bill Nye, the Science Guy, and Bill Engvall.
After week 1, Riley topped the judges’ board with 27, getting a 9 from each from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli. Her fellow contestants Berkley and Bleu were right behind her each scoring a 24 in points from the judges. Bringing up the rear with the least amount of votes was Bill Nye who managed only 14 points from the judges. Riley’s partner Derek Hough took home the Emmy this weekend for Outstanding Choreography for his work on “Stars.” Hough also picked up his fourth trophy as “Stars” champ last season when he partnered with country singer, Kelly Pickler in Season 16.
Classic TV Examiner caught up with “Dancing” judge Bruno Tonioli at the BAFTA LA Emmys Reception to get his thoughts on the contestants chances this season.
