Some people will do anything to stay in the spotlight, including a fake striptease on Dancing With the Stars.
Bristol Palin appears to be buying into the line Hollywood is selling her: embarrass your family and you will achieve stardom. And that's just what Bristol is doing. The only trouble is, Bristol is definitely not going to become a Hollywood star on "DWTS" or elsewhere for her effort. Instead, she is more likely going to become the next laughing stock (behind Kate Gosselin) on the top viewer-rated dance show.
Bristol dances to "Mama told me not to come"
"DWTS" needs audience views to stay in business, and to knock American Idol out of its number one spot, so they drive up the viewer numbers by seeking guests that the public want (or don't want) to see on the dance floor. So it isn't surprising that Dancing With the Stars would want controversial figures--or popular ones--to appear on their show, like Bristol Palin, for example.
But Dancing With the Stars would have preferred to have her mama. But Bristol is the one seeking fame and fortune; Sarah already has both. And Sarah isn't a naive 19, so she knew better than to appear on the show.
But the grizzly mama's daughter Bristol signed on even though she knew she really wasn't going to make her mark dancing on the show. How could she? She said herself she really isn't a dancer. That should have been her first clue to bow out.
The eldest child of Sarah Palin needed a gimmick to get watchers and judges to vote for her over her competition on Monday night. So the almost-first daughter chose (or someone helped her choose) a sorta, kind of, maybe striptease act to get attention. And she did the deed to "Mama told me not to come."
I'm sure Bristol's mama did tell her not to come, and the 19-year-old should have listened to her, as flinging off the dowdy suit to display the partial dress beneath was no show-stopper in the end. It was, however, distasteful. If Bristol had opted, instead, for a silky flowing number in white and danced a waltz, now that would have been so much better. And I bet her mama would have been there to watch.
Sarah Palin a "No Show"
Dancing With the Stars might have lured the daughter to the show but they failed to lure the mama grizzly. It was rumored that Sarah would be in the audience to watch Bristol's dancing debut, but in all honesty: What mother in her right mind wants to see their daughter imitate a striptease act?
Sarah Palin was wise to avoid the taping altogether. She didn't raise her daughter to be pretend to be stripping on national television, and she is not going to sit in an audience and watch it either.
Kudos for her.
And Sarah Palin certainly isn't going to aid Hollywood in using her by allowing them to get close-ups of her reactions during the show (And you know there would have been reactions).
If my own daughter ever did that she wouldn't know if she was coming or going when I finished my spiel. Mothers love their children, and they don't like to see them misused for Hollywood's gain.
Bristol Palin is being misused by Hollywood in order to sell ad space on a television show and line the pockets of men on couches who ogle young girls like Bristol. And poor Bristol either doesn't realize it, or she is so desirous of becoming as famous as her mother that she is willing to allow total strangers to convince her to mock her own mother.
Now that is a shame. And I hope that sooner rather than later, Bristol Palin stops letting guys like Levi and people like Dancing With the Star's producers talk her into stuff her "Mama told her not to do."
