Fan favorite, Amy Purdy was forced to leave in the middle of Monday night’s "Dancing with the Stars" episode because of what she believed to be a back injury. According to Good Morning America on April 29, Purdy tweeted today that she has “a rib out of place.”
Purdy has performed rumba with partner Derek Hough and had just finished listening to the critiques from the judges. When she turned to head for the stairs, she said her upper back cracked and began to spasm.
Show spoke briefly with show cohost, Erin Andrews, saying, “It's hard to breath." Viewers were later told that Amy had indeed been sent to the hospital to get things checked out. She missed performing in the team dance for “Latin Night.”
She had promised to keep fans posted and so she did. The update came via her Twitter account as she explained what happened and thanked her fans.
"So, Looks like I have a rib out of place and my muscles are in spasm. I am being very proactive in healing up so I can continue this journey," the Paralympic athlete tweeted. She continued tweeting replies and said she hoped she could continue dancing.
The 34-year-old has been hailed as an inspiration this season. She has danced exceptionally well on two prosthetic limbs and shown the world what she is made of. Her performances have made her not only a fan favorite but a judges’ favorite and front runner in contention for the mirror ball trophy.
"Please keep the positive healing thoughts and votes coming!!! #purdyhough #dontstopwontstop #DWTS," she tweeted earlier today.
Her rumba earned an impressive 36 out of 40 possible points. Her team dance was judged based on the taped dress rehearsal version done earlier in the day as per the show’s protocol for these types of situations. She earned another 39 out of 40 points.
We wish Amy all the best as recovers from her injury. Hurry back to the ballroom! “Dancing with the Stars” will return Monday, May 5 on ABC, hopefully with a healed Purdy.
