ABC's 'Dancing with the Stars' 2011 kicked off the twelfth season of the mega hit dance competition this evening with a two hour premier event. Eleven "stars" and their professional partners took to the dance floor, showing off newly learned moves, vying for a top score from the judges and for votes from Dancing with the Stars fans at home.
'Karate Kid' star, Ralph Macchio, received the top score from the judges for the first night of Dancing with the Stars 2011 competition. Macchio and professional partner, Karina Smirnoff performed a Fox Trot that the judges felt was the best of the evening. The only drawback was Macchio's hand movements which Bruno Tonioli found weird. He called them "creepy hands".
But, all in all, Macchio's performance was entertaining with great potential for improvement. The combined judges score was a 24 out of a possible 30 points. Not bad for the first night of Dancing with the Stars competition.
Surprisingly Kirstie Alley, who is probably best known for her role of Rebecca Howe on the comedy sitcom 'Cheers', earned a score just one point shy of Macchio. A 23 out of a possible 30 points.
Alley is the oldest and yes, the chunkiest of the contestants competing on Dancing with the Stars 2011. However, when Alley and professional partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy performed the Cha Cha, years and pounds melted away. The woman can dance. Kirstie Alley might possibly be a contender for the 'Dancing with the Stars' season 12 mirror ball trophy.
What do you think? Who is your favorite Dancing with the Stars 2011 contestant?
