Dancing with the Stars 2011: Hines Ward emerging as front runner

Dancing with the Stars 2011 contestants have been fairly evenly matched this season with a few celebrities hitting the top of the leaderboard before falling in ranks, with none clearly emerging as a front runner. Yet one Dancing with the Stars contestant has been remarkably consistent through it all, landing at the number one or number two spot since the beginning. That person is wide receiver for the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers, Hines Ward.

When it comes to Ballroom Dance, Hines Ward is silent but deadly. He doesn't tell Dancing with the Stars fans what he is going to do, he doesn't talk a lot of nonsense about...well, much of anything. Hines Ward listens to pro partner, Kym Johnson, he learns the moves, he listens to the judges criticism, learns from it and then takes it all to the dance floor. It seems to be working for Ward as he is now the front runner for Dancing with the Stars 2011.

Why is Hines Ward emerging as the front runner for Dancing with the Stars 2011? Let's look at the leaderboard.

The premier of ABC's 'Dancing with the Stars' aired on March 21, 2011. The first performance show consisted of two weeks of competition before the first celebrity contestant was voted off. On March 28, 2011 Hines Ward landed at the number two spot on the leaderboard, with only a 1 point spread between him and Ralph Macchio.

Dancing with the Stars April 4, 2011 performance show and Hines Ward lands at the top of the leaderboard for his and pro partner, Kym Johnson's Samba. One thing Ward has over the other Dancing with the Stars men celebrity contestants is hip action. Carrie Ann Inaba critiqued, "Boo Ya...Baby's got bounce!"

April 11, 2011 and Hines Ward lands once again in the number two spot on the Dancing with the Stars leaderboard, tied with Ralph Macchio. Chelsea Kane and DWTS pro Mark Ballas earned the coveted spot of number one, with only one point more than Ward.

That brings us to the latest Dancing with the Stars performance show, April 18, 2011 and Hines Ward once again earns the top score for his and pro partner, Kym Johnson's Rumba. Described by the judges as elegant, charming and sensual, with the best hip action Carrie Ann Inaba had ever seen, Ward's performance has put him at the top of the leaderboard and establishes his position as front runner for Dancing with the Stars 2011.

While Hines Ward may be the Dancing with the Stars 2011 front runner, he is not a shoe-in for the win.

However, I do feel he could possibly make it to the finals along with Romeo and DWTS pro, Chelsie Hightower and possibly Kirstie Alley and DWTS pro, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. We also have to take into consideration that these scores which land Hines Ward at the top of the Dancing with the Stars leaderboard is the judges scores, not votes from fans. That could be a deal breaker right there. What do you think?
