While one of you may not miss an episode of "So You Think You Can Dance," "America's Best Dance Crew" or "Dancing With the Stars," the other person may find the shows corny. Or, maybe you just don't care for those styles of dancing. You run screaming to the garage or your office whenever the topic of going to a dance performance comes up and shy away from the dance floor at weddings and office parties. However, dancing with your mate is not only healthy for your physical health, but it also helps keep the spark in your relationship.

Here are five reasons why you should consider taking a dance class with your partner or going out dancing every once in awhile:

Reason 1: If you're at home with your children all the time, quality time is becoming extinct. One person may be taking care of the kids. The other one is staring at bills to be paid. Dinner needs to be cooked, and hanging out with friends is becoming a lost cause instead of a priority. This is an opportunity to get away from everybody and just hang out with your significant other. If you convince your friends to get involved in joining a dance class, this is a way to hang out with them, too.

Reason 2: Even if you're not a natural dancer, taking a dance class is a way to learn how to dance without being put on the spot. Taking a beginner course means that there will be other dancers who have the same two left feet that you do. And if your mate can dance circles around you, big deal. You knew that when you started dating and/or married him or her.

Reason 3: If you love music, this is a perfect time to add an extra special memory to your perfect song. Pick your favorite R&B or smooth hip-hop track and get to work perfecting your moves. Find some inspiration by going to the upcoming 2010 Hyde Park Jazz Festival.

Reason 4: Dancing is a great time to reminisce on your younger days or single days. Whether you were at Chicago's Budland with Clinton Ghent juking down the "Soul Train" line or at a house party doing the Wop, the Running Man, the Cabbage Patch, the Typewriter, the Butterfly, the Tootsie Roll or the Dookie Booty, the fact is you were dancing. Why'd you stop? If you want to learn the Chicken Noodle Soup, the Get Silly, the Jerk, the Superman or the Dougie, it's never too late to learn. Even if you learn the dances to never do them in public or to only embarrass your children at family reunions, it's still a great way to exercise and laugh yourself silly with your mate.

Reason 5: Consider joining a dance troupe at a place you already frequent. For example, Trinity United Church of Christ has a Married Couples Dance Ministry and performed a routine in front of their church. All of the couples looked like they were enjoying themselves probably from both dancing with their significant others and sharing it with a church that already means a lot to them.
