What exactly is “Dancing in the Sheets?” “Dancing in the Sheets” is a euphemism for “bumping uglies”. It’s also a series here on Examiner.
“Music hath charms to sooth the savage breast”. It also often has charms to make ladies bare them. Your crusty chronicler, of course, being the shy, innocent white boy he is, would never think of suggesting creating a sexual seduction soundtrack.
Still, the sounds that turn us on was an interesting idea for a fun-filled filler article. L.A. based musicians, East Coast artists and many music fans were polled about tunes that turn them on, songs they heard when they made love and music they listen to while they “batter the box”. Surprisingly, the response was so great the one shot article has become a series.
The title itself- “Dancing in the Sheets”-was inspired by my Facebook friend Steve Delp who used the phrase when explaining the concept to another online acquaintance. Here is the latest batch of responses:
Pop princess Ellee Ven submitted a song of her own. It’s titled “Just For Love”. Ven says: “It’s about a sex partnership”. It’s off her 2004 disc Eleven By Elleeven. (It certainly has the right focus for “the event”!)
The late, lovely Tina Miller used to enjoy “Pontoon” by Little Big Town. She said the 2012 song “is not sexy but makes me think of sex, driving into (the) water naked and enjoying each other”. (What was that Steve Miller Band line? “Everything’s better when wet!” Tina, hopefully somehow you can see this . . . and know that as this is being written . . . it’s raining.)
Jeff Schroedl, guitarist and backing vocalist for Altered Five, stated: “The best bet from our (2012) CD would be ‘Dynamite’. It has a sassy, seductive groove and lyrics to match.” (Yeah, boy, some gals really like getting funky.)
Additional online contributors suggested Ravel’s Boléro. This is truly a classic. It’s been used to inspire intimate, erotic action for decades, in fact. It dates back to 1928, believe it or not.
Last but not least, regular contributor “Swexy” Kittie Shaughnessy likes Marvin Gaye's “Sexual Healing”. (Yeah, baby, “when I get that feeling I want sexual healing”. Bring it!)
So there you have it, lovers! Ya just never can tell what music makes the magic! What tracks make you hot? What hits make you hard and what wax makes you wet? What records make the top ten for your sexual soundtrack? The world is waiting to hear! Submit your sexy songs, coital cuts and torrid tunes today!
My name is Phoenix and . . . that's the bottom line.
