Spent too much on Christmas? Feeling bad about family going home after the holidays? The latest viral video of the dancing spider might be an appreciated pick-me-up. On Friday the Huffington Post shared that the peacock spiders dancing to the YMCA tune have become a YouTube viral video over the Christmas holiday. Even people afflicted with arachnophobia (the fear of spiders) appreciate the dance moves.
The dance seems so well performed, but don’t be deceived. The actual movements are real, but a mating ritual to attract attention. The video offers a compilation of different over the top moves that entice the surrounding spiders. Add the music and the creatures really do look like they are dancing to charm their partners.
The video was put together by Dr. Jurgen Otto, an entomologist. Studying peacock spiders and other small creatures, he wanted to give the average viewer a reason to pay attention to the spiders. After watching this video it’s not impossible to keep any eye open for dancing spiders around your home (and then swat them with a paper to get them to leave.)
Check out the video clip of the Dancing Spider and share it with a friend! No doubt they will smile after watching this funny moment.
