Merry Lynn Morris has created a wheelchair called the,"Rolling Dance Chair." This wheelchair is designed for children. The wheelchair enables them to dance more freely regardless of having a disability.
Morris is a professor at the University of South Florida. She has spent seven years designing and engineering the wheelchair. The chair moves the same way the dancer leans. It also has a support for the partner to lean into while dancing.
So far students of Morris love it. They have cerebral palsy and spina bifida. The idea for the wheelchair came when her father was injured in a car accident. She wanted to create a way to help people dance in their wheelchairs.
All people have a right to dance. The Rolling Dance Chair just is a tool to make it an easier reality. The wheelchair is virtually transparent making the dancer the star and not the chair. There is an app on a smartphone that controls the wheelchair.
