The dancehall track entitled "Give It All To Me" was released on Saturday night on New York's Hot 97 radio station and immediately set the airwaves and social media on fire. Just as importantly, the single has already accrued over 90, 000 plays on the artist's Soundcloud account.
However, what stands out is Mavado's reluctance to leave other Jamaican talents behind.
In an interview with Examiner.com, the artist says hopefully the video-shoot will take place this week, and, "I'm going to make sure I fly up some dancers from Jamaica for the shoot so we mek sure bring the real authentic Jamaican dancehall vibe to the world."
Julian Jones-Griffith, Mavado's manager says the collaboration came to fruition after he heard the single, which was produced by JA Productions, "I said Nicki would be perfect for "Give It All To Me" and met with her and her team on a Khaled video shoot and they were very responsive to collaborating with Mavado."
The new international collaboration will undoubtedly open many new doors for the "I'm So Special" artist who is also signed to DJ Khaled's We The Best Music Group. Jones-Griffith spoke similarly, saying, "People don't really understand how hard the process of breaking a dancehall record into mainstream is. The genre is placed in a box and maybe brought out for summer or if a record is huge in Jamaica it might get a half decent look on the same handful of major stations in the US but usually die quickly from there due to lack of support."
He continued, "To promote a dancehall record out the gate and get it play-listed and on the charts takes a huge amount of planning, relationships, promotion and making sure you have the right record. The advantage of having someone like Nicki on the single is that she will help open up doors for Mavado, stations might be more receptive to play the record without it necessarily being the biggest song in Jamaica yet, which is usually the first question program directors ask."
To further promote the new single and prepare for an upcoming video, Mavado says, "We all been in New York together for the last few days just vibing and hanging out. Nicki is a Caribbean girl so the energy is like a family ting."
