The streets of Manhattan come alive at the beginning of the summer with the New York City Dance parade. The parade has been bringing people together for eight years through one of the oldest traditions in the world. Eighty different dance troupes boogied down Broadway from 21st street to Tompkins Square Park. Some of the styles of dance included African, Indian, Jazz, Zumba, Samba, Blues, Tap, Belly dancing, Roller disco, Middle Eastern, and the list continues. This year Master tapper Savion Glover was the Grand Marshall. The accompanying slide show features some of the amazing dancers at the parade.

There is something about dance, whether it is choreographed or free style that really invigorates and integrates mind, body and soul. Historically, dance has been used in all cultures for celebration, entertainment and rituals. Records of dance have been found in ancient Egyptian tomb paintings dating back to 3300 BC.
