Dance like Rhett and Scarlett

In Los Angeles there are two places you can learn dance the Virginia Reel: UCLA and in Pasadena.

At UCLA, the Ballroom Dance Club and International Dance Club host historic balls once a month with a hiatus in the summer. The next historic ball is in October, the Ragtime Ball. The cost is minimal. The ball is held at Powell Library. Some people dress up. Others come casual.

For a real dress up event, go to the Social Daunce Irregulars Grand Victorian Ball. This group hosts dance classes just prior to each ball. At the ball, there is live music and lemonade and cookies. Men and women are encouraged to dress up. Some come in truly spectacular costumes. Their next ball is in November.  The program (you will be given a dance card) usually ends with the Virginia Reel followed by a waltz.

For more info: Go to the UCLA  Ballroom Dance Club and International Dance Club Web site or visit the Social Daunce Irregulars Grand Victorian Ball Web site. You can also find out information about various vintage dance events at the LAHA Web site.
