Now through September 4th, you can check out Jazzin' at the Shedd every Wednesday night. Dance to live jazz and funk music at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium. Then enjoy some cocktails, and watch the fireworks shot off from Navy Pier. This experience is $18, or free if you are already a Shedd member. See website for schedule of music groups and directions.
Also out around the Chicago area, is the Palatine Street Fest August 23-25. This is a free event that has all kinds of music and food. A great band for swing dancing, the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, will be playing at 10 p.m. the 24th. Palatine is just over an hour away from Rockford, and this festival sounds like a great alternative for Rockfordians who are mourning the loss of On the Waterfront.
The price for the 2014 American Lindy Hop Championships will increase after August 31st. Current price is $99. It always pays to register ahead of time for big events such as this. This particular event is held at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare, and will occur May 30-June 1 of next year. It will include many different workshops, contests, and of course dancing to live music! Events like this are a great way to expand your horizons, and meet people from all over who share your interest in dancing.
Looking for something this Labor Day weekend? Head down to Taste of Batavia block party September 1st. The fun takes place 4-9 p.m. Walk along downtown for $2 samplers from local restaurants, activities, and dancing to live music. There will even be a swing dance lesson before Miss Jubilee takes the stage!
