Dan Navarro will perform at the Hotel Pattee's Lit by the Sun Signature Series on Friday night. The singer, songwriter, and voice actor has spent most of his career behind the scenes, but he has been a big part of a lot of good music, movies, and television over the years. Navarro has written music for artists like Pat Benatar (the Grammy-nominated “We Belong”), The Bangles, Jackson Browne, Keb’ Mo’, Dave Edmunds, The Temptations, Dionne Warwick, Dutch superstar Marco Borsato, and many more over the years. He also performed as one-half of the acoustic duo Lowen & Navarro for 22 years and 12 albums. He has also landed roles with some big and small screen projects that you may be familiar with. Navarro did voice work, writing, or music for The Lorax, Rock of Ages, Happy Feet (both 1 and 2), Rio, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Ice Age (2 & 3), The Emperor’s New Groove, and a host of other movies, as well small screen work on Prison Break, Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show, and others. Navarro released his first solo album, Live at McCabe’s, in 2009, and his first studio album, entitled Shed My Skin, is due out later this year. Dinner and concert packages for this show are sold out, but concert-only tickets are still available for $25 through the Hotel Pattee website. The meal starts at 6:30 p.m., and the music kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

Des Moines roots band Brother Trucker will perform at the Science Center of Iowa's final Mixology event of the season Friday night. The band has released four albums, and they also wrote the score for the award-winning independent film Becoming Eduardo. For $5 (free for SCI members), you can enjoy the music, explore the Science Center's exhibits, and catch the live science presentation "Brick Built Sci". The 21+ event will have a cash bar, and the evening's festivities will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
