Dan Henderson stops 'Shogun' Rua via third-round TKO at UFC Fight Night 38

According to a March 23 report from FOX Sports, 43-year-old MMA legend Dan Henderson staved off Father Time for just a little bit longer by finishing Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in the main event of UFC Fight Night 38 in Natal, Brazil.

Henderson was rocked both in the first and second rounds, but he bounced back in the third frame by smashing Rua with one of his signature overhand rights.

Rua's nose was twisted sideways in the aftermath of the blow, and ref Herb Dean quickly jumped in to call a stop to the bout. The official stoppage came at the 1:31 mark of the third round.

Henderson was ranked No. 8 in the UFC's light heavyweight division heading into UFC Fight Night 38, but he goes home possibly seeded in the top five in the world.

As for Rua, his loss possibly drops him out of the top 10.

What's next for Henderson?

There's plenty of great potential opponents for Henderson. Even though he's 43 years old, he could legitimately fight any of the top guys at light heavyweight, perhaps even UFC champ Jon Jones.

But before the UFC grants him a title shot, Henderson is going to likely need to fight either Daniel Cormier, Glover Teixeira, Phil Davis or Alexander Gustafsson.

Henderson proved that he still has a lot left in the tank, even as he inches closer to his 44th birthday.

As for Rua, it's back to the drawing board. The UFC probably won't cut him from the roster, but he's now farther away from a title shot than ever before.
