Legendary wrestler and coach Dan Gable -- along with the man who profiled him recently for ESPN, Wright Thompson -- have been announced as guests for the “On The Mat” broadcast for Wed., Sept. 4, the radio show announced Tuesday.
Thompson is a senior writer for ESPN.com and ESPN: The Magazine. He was also the narrator for two 30 for 30 films on ESPN. Thompson recently wrote the detailed profile titled “The Losses of Dan Gable” for ESPN.
Gable had a storied career as wrestler and coach, first at Waterloo West High School in Iowa, then at Iowa State. He won a gold medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics without surrendering a point. Gable also coached the University of Iowa wrestling team (1977-1997) to 15 NCAA championships. What's more, his name graces the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum in his hometown of Waterloo, Iowa.
