2013 CrossFit Games champion Samantha Briggs and Southern California region newcomer and CrossFit Games veteran Dan Bailey and won 14.1, the first workout of the 2014 CrossFit Games Open season. Scores had to be submitted by Monday, March 3 at 5:00PM Pacific time.
Briggs finished over 10 rounds with 472 reps of snatches and double-unders, breaking three-time CrossFit Games champion Rich Froning's record from 2011. She finished with the top score in the world.
Froning's former training partner and Games veteran Dan Bailey, one of the strongest pound-for-pound athletes in the sport, finished with 461 reps. Bailey topped Froning's score from 2011 and 2014. Three-time champion Froning finished with 444 reps, still clearly in the top scores worldwide.
A year removed from Games competition after taking a year off for medical school, fan favorite Julie Foucher finished with 392 reps, tied with top Women's competitors Jenny LaBaw and Michelle Kinney. The score was good enough for just outside of the top 100 worldwide.
Former Games champion Kristan Clever finished with 379 reps and sits just inside the top 200 female competitors. In his quest to qualify for another CrossFit Games, veteran Chris Spealler finished with 385 reps - outside of the top 500 men worldwide, but good for a near top 30 finish in the South West region.
